Code of Conduct

Respect and Inclusion

We are dedicated to creating a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment at all our events. Everyone is invited to join us, regardless of sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, ethnicity, age, disability, or religion. Our words and actions should always reflect this commitment to inclusivity. Every participant deserves to feel respected and valued, both on and off the dance floor. By being part of our events, you agree to support these values and help build a positive community for dancers, instructors, staff, and volunteers.

Dance Floor Etiquette

A great atmosphere depends on all of us. Please stay aware of your surroundings and be considerate of other dancers. Dance safely and, if you accidentally bump into someone, a simple apology is appreciated. Feedback, corrections, or dance instruction should only be given if your partner specifically asks for it. Our events are meant for enjoyment and connection, not unsolicited advice. We all share the responsibility of keeping the dance floor safe and friendly.

Boundaries and Consent

Everyone’s boundaries are different, and it’s important to respect your partner’s comfort and personal space. No one is ever required to dance, and it’s always okay to say no or to stop dancing at any time, for any reason. If someone declines a dance, please respect their choice and feel free to ask someone else. While it’s common in Scandinavian swing circles to dance two songs, this is not a rule—let your partner know if you prefer just one.

Safeguarding and Community Care

The safety and well-being of all participants is our highest priority. If you ever feel uncomfortable, vulnerable, or notice something concerning, you can reach out to any member of the organizing team. They will then direct you towards our safety focal point who is trained in safeguarding and will handle any concerns with care and discretion. We follow a survivor-centered approach, where information is kept confidential, and we always strive to obtain consent before taking any action of any kind. Our aim is always to maintain a respectful, supportive, and inclusive space for all.

Commitment to a Positive Community

By following this Code of Conduct, you help create a welcoming, safe, and enjoyable environment for everyone. Please note that anyone acting inappropriately may be asked to leave the event. Thank you for helping us build a thriving and supportive Balboa community.

We can all help creating a good mood and a good experience for everyone.
